As AzETA is an NGO where most of the work is done on volunteer basis, AzETA management always seeks ways to acknowledge AzETA members for their volunteer work.
So far, AzETA has the following nominations:
- Member of the Year - Life-Long Membership - Honorary Membership
MEMBER OF THE YEAR
In 2007 AzETA Executive Board created a nomination Member of the Year for its most active members who make invaluable contribution to the work of the organisation. AzETA members who got this nomination for the first time in the history of AzETA were Janna Aliyeva (Baku Branch), Humay Mirzayeva (Ganja Branch) and Arzu Huseynova (Sheki Branch). The awards were presented in the opening ceremony of the AzETA 4th International ELT Concerence on 10 November 2007.
Members of the Year for the period of November 2008 - October 2009 are: Nushaba Bakhsiyeva (Baku Branch) and Pervana Beylarova (member from Salyan)
Nushaba Bakhshiyeva
Nushaba Bakhshiyeva teaches at school # 60 in Baku. She has contributed to AzETA activities and projects in many different ways - support in organising charity concerts, conferences, different events. But her invaluable support to AzETA is with English Language Programme for Qizildash orphans. She is not only a teacher for this children, she is a caring mother for them. Since 2004 she has been volunteering for this Project and thanks to her dedication this Project still continues.
Every year AzETA organises summer camp for this orphans and Nushaba is the best supporter for organising and implementing summer camp projects.
Parvana Beylarova
Parvana Beylarova is a teacher from Salyan. She joined AzETA in 2007. In this 1 year period, at her own expenses Parvana visits AzETA Baku office every Saturday - 4 hours round trip! She contributed to AzETA Enjoy English Club in Salyan a lot, and her students and she took an active part in the Enjoy English Club contest held in Baku on 29 August 2008. Besides:
• she promotes AzETA among English teachers of her region and helps in membership rise; • she always offers her assistance to the AzETA management for organising events, conferences; • she actively participates in AzETA events and is very dedicated to AzETA; • she regularly visits AzETA Baku branch from a long distance at her own expenses • she follows all AzETA rules as a very disciplined member.
Benefits:
• 1 year complimentary AzETA membership and membership for all SIGs • Complimentary registration for AzETA 5th ELT Conference • Participation in an international event offered to AzETA within one year after being awarded with the name of The Member of the Year

LIFE-LONG MEMBERSHIP
Pursuant to AzETA Bylaw, in its recent decision AzETA management decided to award one of its very dedicated member with a Life-long membership. It is Janna Aliyeva. She joined AzETA in 1996. Since then she has been one of the best supporters, promoters of AzETA. In its critical years, when AzETA was facing financial problems and was about collapsing, together with other 12 members, Janna Aliyeva was there to put her shoulder under the load of AzETA and helped AzETA survive from collapsing.
Last year her peers nominated her as the Member of the Year which was the ever first nomination in AzETA. She proved to deserve the nomination and benefited complimentary membership in 2008 and registration for AzETA 5th Conference. The current nomination will enable her to be a life-long AzETA member without paying any membership fee. AzETA also offers her complimentary life-long registration for its future conferences. This decision is thanks to her selfless attitidue to AzETA. She never expected anything from AzETA and is always there when a helping hand is required - no matter in what. AzETA is going from strength to strength thanks to such members. So, AzETA should always value such members to motivate others and give a good example to all its members, as well as other NGOs.

HONORARY MEMBER
This award is presented to those individuals who make outstanding support and contribution to AzETA. So far, AzETA has awarded this title to:
1. HE Mr. Reno Harnish, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2003 – 2006) 2. HE Dr. Laurie Bristow, British Ambassador to Azerbaijan (2004 – 2007) 3. Prof. Parvona Jamshidov, President, English Teachers Association of Tajikistan (in 2003)
In 2008 AzETA presented this award to 3 people who have played an invaluable role in AzETA's life. These are:
1. Kathy Taylor, English Language Fellow, US Embassy 2. Afet Ibrahimova, Education Specialist, US Embassy 3. Gulshan Huseynova, Programmes Manager, British Council
Kathy Taylor arrived in Azerbaijan in September of 2007 to work as an English Language Fellow, a U.S. State Department program. This assignment sent her to Lankaran to teach in the foreign language department at Lankaran State University. In November of 2007, Kathy attended her first AzETA conference and supported 7 English teachers from the Lankaran region to attend the Conference. She quickly recognized the need for the English teachers in the Lankaran region to form a professional association. Within a short time, she involved English teachers of Lenkaran and Peace Corps volunteers Tim Ong and Joyce Hahn with the goal to establish a branch of AzETA in the southern part of the country started to evolve. In June of 2008, this became a reality when AzETA South Branch elected its first slate of officers. For this outstanding work, AzETA management decided to award her with the title of Honorary Membership which will enable her to enjoy lifelong complimentary AzETA membership, registration for AzETA conferences, join all AzETA events any time.
Afet Ibrahimova is Education Specialist of the US Embassy. Besides playing the role of a representative of a donor organisation, she constantly supports AzETA like its members. She promotes AzETA everywhere speaking very high of its projects, activities. Thanks to her high reference on AzETA, Public Affairs Office of the US Embassy is the major partner and donor of AzETA. Since she is in this position AzETA was awarded with lots of grants of the US Embassy for its various projects. The major project Afet Ibrahimova supported AzETA to win is English Access Microscholarship Programme.
Gulshan Huseynova is Programmes Manager of the British Council. She has played an important role in increasing the relations between AzETA and the British Council. She enjoys contributing AzETA. As an ELT expert, she joined AzETA as an ordinary member and pays her membership fees annually as a very disciplined member. She also promotes AzETA among all her contacts as the representative of the British Council. She considers AzETA success as her own success, as such makes all possible contribution to AzETA for its empowerment and development. Her biggest contribution to AzETA was to award AzETA with NQT (Newly Qualified Teachers) Project funded by the British Council in 2006-2008. After the end of the Project she arranged hand-over of the Project to AzETA and negotiated with the Ministry of Education for the financial support of the Project.
AzETA sincerely congratulates Kathy Taylor, Afet Ibrahimova and Gulshan Huseynova and thanks them very much for their invaluable support for the development and growth of AzETA, as well as, for personal and professional development of English teachers of Azerbaijan!
PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS
With the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan 300 teachers participated in the contest for the nomination of Best Teacher early in 2008. The contest had several stages starting from submitting documents to the Selection Committee to giving demo lessons and interviews. 100 teachers of different subjects were successful in this contest. There are also AzETA members among the winners. They are:
1. Elmira Ilizarova, AzETA 1st Vice-President on International Relations Officer (2005-2008) 2. Farida Huseynova, AzETA SIGs Co-ordinator (2005-2008) 3. Farida Safarova, Zengy Lyceum, Baku 4. Khalida Rustamova, AzETA Public Affairs Officer (2005-2008) 5. Sevil Aliverdiyeva, AzETA Khachmaz Branch Manager 6. Shukufa Najafova, School # 1, Ismayilli 7. Tarana Aliyeva, AzETA Media Co-ordinator (2005-2008)
This is not their only achievement, though. Elmira Ilizarova and Khalida Rustamova are Honorary Teachers of Azerbaijan. Elmira Ilizarova, Farida Huseynova, Khalida Rustamova, Shukufa Najafova and Tarana Aliyeva are TEA Programme alumni. Sevil Aliverdiyeva obtains international training course certificates. Farida Safarova was a winner of a recent UN led project and attended a UN event in Beijing, China on 25-29 September 2008 where her student gave a presentation.
Their contribution to AzETA is invaluable. Thanks to their hard work, dedication and commitment AzETA has made lots of achievements and is one of the best NGOs in Azerbaijan and famous in many countries among the English teachers' Accosiations.

The contest for 2009 has just given its start. The application deadline is over. Many AzETA members have applied to participate in the contest. AzETA supports all the applicants and wishes best of luck to all of them.
