The 8th AzETA International ELT Conference: 15 Years & Beyond: Creating, Crafting, and Innovating
AzETA held its 8th International ELT Conference: 15 Years & Beyond: Creating, Crafting and Innovating on 12-13 November 2011 at Khazar University in Baku, Azerbaijan.

As the Mission of AzETA is to provide support for high quality education in ELT, professional development of English language teachers of the country, we have been organizing regional and international conferences for about 10 years now. The aim is to give an opportunity to AzETA members to benefit from AzETA services more, share views, experiences and knowledge. With this Conference AzETA will also have a chance to celebrate its 15th anniversary through looking 15 years back to see what has been achieved and what can be done further.

The Conference created an opportunity for the participants to share, discuss and reflect on the diversity of issues that impact on the teaching and learning of English as a second or a foreign language.

The focus of the conference was the need for ELT practitioners to rethink and reconfigure the way they view and practice their profession in light of rapid global change and new challenges; to think outside the square and to share ideas and practices that are contributing to such thinking. The Conference also discussesd AzETA's achievements in these 15 years and its future perspectives.

The Conference mainly focused on the below issues in ELT:

• Pedagogy (including classroom practice, teacher education)
• Testing and Assessment
• Materials development and adaptation
• Textbooks - how to make them user-friendly
• Learners and Learning
• Curriculum & Policy

Participants were from early childhood, primary, secondary, TEFL, adult and tertiary sectors, including teachers/scholars who work with language learners at all levels.

Keynote speakers were Eilidth Hamilton, Director English, Wider Europe, British Council and Thimothy Bowen, Teacher Trainer, Pilgrims UK.
